IT'S HARD
You'll notice I haven't posted anything new in a while. Well, school is hard and I have to do homework. Which is precisely what I am not doing right now.
Anyway. I've also been writing toooooo muuuuuuch fanfiction. (It's on fanfiction.net and AO3 under the username Italian Hobbit if you are interested). But next semester I'm taking a fiction writing course, so expect actual things from me in the future!
I just wanted to get that other journal off my page because it was old. I'm out of things to say.

Note to my watchers!

Hey there!
These days, I don't think there are many of my watchers who follow me exclusively for the fanfiction I write... but if you do like my fanfics, I am just letting you know that I'm putting all of them in storage. I want my dA to be a place for my original works only now... I'll probably leave up the fan art for a while, but that might come down, too. Not sure yet.
If you love my fanfics and you don't want to lose them, I'd like to direct you to my accounts on fanfiction.net.

THE HOBBIT

OH MAN, that movie was amazing!!!

So, I went to the midnight showing in IMAX 3D last night… and it
was
AMAZING.
I absolutely LOVE what they did with the story. Everything was glorious. Martin Freeman as Bilbo was perfect, and seeing the lighter side of Gandalf just made me so happy. Lines were delivered beautifully. I loved how they brought in Ian Holm and Elijah Wood again and then set the story back… Ian Holm's narration of the events before the story was a brilliant way of taking care of the plot there without some boring dialogue.
They did change some things about the beginning, especially when it came to how Bilbo came to decide that he was going on his adventure, but I can see why they did it the way they did - it made the story progress quickly. The songs by the dwarves were SO cool (and Kili is HOT!!!), but I missed the interaction of ALL the dwarves. I still didn't know who some of them were by the end because they had barely any speaking lines, something that Tolkien balanced beautifully in the books, even with thirteen dwarves with really similar names.
The scene with the trolls was hilarious, but really, the best part of that scene is that Gandalf tricks the trolls by imitating their voices and making them argue with each other. That's one of the most classic scenes in the book, and I'm not quite sure why they changed it. Regardless, I enjoyed the scene.
The bits they added with Gandalf's story investigating the Necromancer were really, really awesome. I never saw Radagast the Brown as quite so insane (and the bird poop in his hair really bothered me), and I can't remember if he actually participated in the canon, but it was a good touch. I loved how it all unfolded, canon or not.
My favorite, FAVORITE thing that the Hobbit team did is adding in the bit about the White Council. Everyone's roles in that scene fit perfectly to how Tolkien described events at that time happening, which I really, really appreciated. Although the White Council is not really mentioned in The Hobbit (as far as I know), just it being acknowledged made me extremely happy. I'm so excited to see how the story with the Necromancer develops, because obviously, it isn't part of the book, and the snippets in Tolkien's other works are so dim in my memory that I can't imagine what it was like.
The scene with Gollum in the caves was brilliant. Gollum seemed so different - this was before he was tortured in Barad-Dûr, when he was old and cruel but not yet quite bitter. It was like watching a puppy. A very ugly, insane puppy. I can't describe it. But the interaction between Martin Freeman and Andy Serkis in that scene pretty much just made the whole movie.
I feel like I need to read the book again, because the whole goblins tracking them down thing isn't something I recall. I think they changed that for dramatic effect, but I can't be sure. I thought Azog was killed in the goblin caves, and the other goblins went to the Battle of Five Armies because they were pissed about it. But I'll read it again.
They really played up the drama, which I guess is because they had to make it as epic and appealing to the same audience as The Lord of the Rings - it felt a little bit too intense to me, as The Hobbit is actually a children's book.
Overall, I enjoyed it quite a bit. I'm definitely going to go see it again.
